Question Rear Headrest

Has anyone had problems with their rear headrests making thumping noises when traveling on bumpy roads. The headrest slightly raise and lower causing this undesirable sound. If anyone has had this problem and their dealer was able to fix it can you please provide the dealer location and phone number? My dealer, Crown Automobile in Birmingham, acts as if this is normal and they don't know how to fix it. PLEASE HELP!

I have heard of two ways of solving this problem.

1) Use velcro to hold down the headrest.

2) I think I read somewhere about tightening the screws on the headrests to make them less free and more stiff. I think it was the dealer who did the tightening too.

Have an 01 E320 4Matic. Never heard the headrests rattle. Also ride sometimes in a friends 97 E320. Quiet as mine no rattles from headrests or other places

I only hear the bumping sound from the headrests when I go over speed bumps a little too quickly. Other than that, I never hear them either.

However, it does surprise some back seat passengers when they hear it the first time.

The problem I have is that the rear head rests squeek like hell sometimes, but I have had my back seat removed from my car several times for audio installation purposes. Maybe the dealer did a poor job reinstalling the rear seat and head rests. It really can be distracting in such a quiet car as the MB.

Mine has the simliar problem, too. The dealer has no idea how to solve it either. It only happened a couple of times though, so it's not really worth the time to bring the car back to the dealer again. My own solution? Just raise them in the up-right position. But only the two on the sides, the middle one really blocks the view.
Hope this helps.

I think I noticed Mr. Vanos keeps the ones on the side up too.
