Spring perch question
Hello, I'm looking at purchasing a 1999 E300 TD with 94k miles but have been reading about the dreaded spring perch issue related to these cars. My question is if the perches have not yet failed, is there a preventative repair that is possible to do so as to kind of brace or "shore up" this area to prevent the potential/eventual perch failure? Does this involve welding in a brace or riveting/welding a brace? What's the latest on a prophylactic cure for this potential issue and what is the average cost of this if there is such a procedure? Also, can I take the car to any Indy shop and have them inspect the perches? If they peel back the coating to get a good look at the area, will it then need to be re-coated, re-treated, or re-sealed? In other words, does a real inspection require remediation/restoration afterwards?
thanks
thanks

Also how prevalent is this spring perch issue for the W210? Is it kind of blown out of proportion on the forums or will eventually every W210 need some remediation in this area? These cars aren't getting any younger and it seems like this could become more and more of a potentially ticking time bomb as these cars age?
