Warped Rotors....

How do the brake rotors become warped? I drove my car from school to my house and I used the brakes pretty heavily. I came home, waited about 10 mins, came outside and began to wash my car. When I was spraying my wheels and tires off, along with the brakes, steam began to come off them. Not a ton but a noticeable amount. Did I hurt anything? thanks in advance

Steams come off from the water you spray because heat from the hard braking has not yet dessipated from the rotors.

I don't think you hurt anything...

The Brake Rotors Can Warp from The COLD water on HOT Brake rotors...I Have seen this several times...

You can also warp the rotors from Hard Use and Not Cooling the brakes before Parking the car...Also Hard Use and Stopping at a stop with your foot on the brake pedal... WILL Warp brake Rotors

improper tire mounting can be the cause of warped rotors. If you over torque the first nut and then continue to tighten the others, the tension on the first bolt increases further and this can lead to warped rotors. That's why it is important to snug all the bolts first and then torque them to proper specs in a star sequence around the hub. I had this problem once, the fellow who mounted my tires rammed the bolts in one after the other and was finished after he had done the last bolt. I discovered that the rotors were warped as soon as I needed to use the brakes. The only other time I wound up with warped rotors was when they were cut and resurfaced too much. The rotor was too thin and overheated right away in normal use.
