Brake Pad Replacement

'01E430: When replacing the pads on the E class, do the rotors have to be replaced also or is just turning them enough?

Depends on the surface of the rotors. Try feeling the surface of the rotors and see how smooth or rough they are, if you feel they have grooves on them you may want to re-face them.

I don't see why the rotors have to be replaced so early. That's a sure sign that something is wrong if the rotors need replacement after such a short usage time frame. Typically just turning the rotors to get a nice flat surface fine. Is the dealer telling you to replace the rotors?

No, mine is not going bad. Just curious 'cause when I purchased the car a wicked vibration was traced to warped rear rotors and they had to replace practically everything brake related that's mounted on the rear wheels - warranty, ofcourse. When I talked to the service tech, he made it seem like everytime they do a brake job, the rotors have togo also. He probably didn't mean that.

Anyway, what do you folks think about the W210 rust problems? (see posts below).

Rotor thickness

The rotor have minimum service thickness spec. Assuming the rotor is warped and need to be turned, the end thickness after turning cannot be less than the service thickness spec.

A Brembo tech once told me that when going from harder pad to softer pad, it is advisable to turn the rotor. This is to help the softer pad beds. Going from the same pad or soft to harder pad material shouldn't be a problem.

Hope this help
