97 e420 looking for wheel change

I want to change the 16" 41 offset stock monoblocks to a more modern 18" spoke like wheel.

Nothing has the same offset and how does the larger size wheel effect the offset?

Staggered or not?

I haven't analyzed the tire size issue yet.

Any recommendations would be hugely appreciated. I'm spending way too much time trying to figure this out.

Some of the online company's say wheels will fit when the offset is way off. I think they just want to sell wheels.

Thanks a ton in advance.

well, you'll still need to read up on it since it is ultimately your expenditure. it comes down to
function, fitment, aesthetics etc

if you take a bigger wheel while maintaining the same offset, you'll need to select a lower profile
tire in order to maintain the same overall diameter/circumference of the tire/wheel package if
you want to maintain reasonably accurate speedo/odo calculations

but the ride will be compromised since there is less tire sidewall to cushion the ride. you willing
to accept that?

you've not mentioned your suspension plans to accommodate the new tire/wheel, nor any mods
you may have made to-date

iimportant offset considerations: too high ET (deep into car) and tire may rub suspension. too low
ET (towards outside of car) and you may rub fender

Thanks for your thoughts.

I have not and plan no suspension upgrades.

I am not tied to the 41mm offset of the original wheels.

If I can move the wheel in a bit, maybe I won't have to use low profile tires

you've already suggested 18" in spoked wheel.

pick a design and post link

otherwise no one really has an ideal what design you dis/like and can't really
suggest boxer or brief and all that. your design will also probably narrow down
price a little

Nothing beats the classic 18" W210 E55 AMG Monoblock wheel on these cars IMO. Sets in good shape are pricey and getting harder to find. I have a set on my wagon and love them. Expect to spend $2000-$2500+ for a really nice set (not including tires).

Before that I was running 18" W211 E350 Sport wheels on the car. You do need to get custom lug bolts when using W211 wheels on a W210 chassis. Specs for the lug bolts - RAD 12mm x 1.5, 26mm Shank, R14 Ball Seat. These are only for fitting OEM W211 wheels on a W210. IIRC I paid around $60 for them from Pelican Parts.

I am open to almost anything that works. It seems like almost all of the Mercedes Wheels are nice looking. I'm old and don't need some hipster wheel for my 4 door sedan. I have been looking at the wheels in the second picture that Strigoi posted.

I finally figured out what I was reading on a Wheel-size.com that shows different offsets and tires depending upon the wheel size.

I was looking an example of a Mercedes wheel, that would replace the monblock, that someone has tried and that works without plates or any other issues. Something easy breezy.

Thanks for the input

couple more sites for your consideration

recommended fitment
http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/inf.../mercedes-benz

gives you idea of the wheel design
http://www.wheelcollision.com/store/...212CHASSIS.htm

i sold my OE 10 hole E320 wheels and replaced them with w211 E55 spoked rims
I really wanted something forged but decided not to spend any more money on the car
so opted for wheels which were more reasonable in cost.

Those wheels also look really good when powder coated gloss black. I was thinking about doing that with mine but got a wild hair up my *** and bought the Monoblocks instead.

I've seen some pics of them done like that floating around on here before.
