Headlamp issue on 1999 e430
It’s my first time posting and I need some advice if possible. My secondary headlamps (the hi beams) are supposed to turn on when I turn on my main headlamps. Just yesterday they stopped turning on when I turn on the main headlamps and I’m getting the pesky light error message. They turn on when I activate the hi beams, so I don’t think it’s an issue with the bulbs. Is this a bad fuse somewhere? Any help is greatly appreciated!
if so, the w210s are notorious, especially now given their age, of having decomposing wiring insulation and
bulb socket to the H6W city light bulb. so you may want to inspect this carefully
bowls contain 2 bulbs - one for park and one for HIGH beam. you're not really being complete or accurate in describing
the symptom which can be misleading.
so, it is important that you lift the hood, remove the headlight rear panel, and examine the wire harness leading to the
park/city bulb which is the LOWER positioned bulb.....and not the high beam bulb centered within the bowl.
is the wire insulation healthy and undamaged ?? pull the city/park bulb and test for continuity or connect 12 vdc to it -
does it light up. report back
you can see the small, city/park light bulb kind of dangling at the blue/black wire termination
since it would be a tad unusual for BOTH city/park light bulbs to be inoperative at the same time, it may not be
the bulbs, rather something upstream...leading me to suspect wiring or the headlight switch itself...which is
also not unheard of and would then need replacing
