E320 wagon e55 motor swap questions
Hello guys
Thanks for any help in advance. I'm a new guy here, so please take it easy on me, lol!
I found a 99 e320 wagon for less than $200 that has about 280k miles and a little bumper damage. I currently own an 02 E55 that i love. I would love to have an E55 wagon, but being in the US you guys know that wasn't an option for us without shipping and customs. How hard would it be to swap in a motor from another E55 and give the wagon new life? I can get a used 2000 110K mile motor locally for about $700. I'm thinking the trans and rear can be retained, but the ecu would need reprogramming. Am I far off on these assumptions? I tried to search, but found nothing. Links or help would be greatly appreciated!

E320 wagon to E55
Hi there,
I am about to embark on my 5th such conversion, including the one that was at SEMA in 2018.
I would recommend getting a whole salvage donor car, as you need the complete drive train.
To do this conversion on a 99 E320 you will need a 99 or 2000 E55 to make sure the electronics are the same / similar.
Please feel free to contact me via a PM so I can tell you all the little bits that need doing.

I am in the process of buying a 2000 E55, just not sure of its running condition at this point. If nothing else, I will be able to use the cradle and everything around the motor/trans, if those are found to be trash.

Hello there, I had a small question on if this also applies to the fact that if i want to swap a 1998 e320 with the engine of an e55, then it would have to be a 1998 one too?
