LCD repair on cluster
My temp and time LCDs are not working properly. Is it as simple as de soldering the LCD and re soldering a new one in?
I have one more question: are these cluster's plug and play? Cant I just buy one on ebay that is already working properly or is this a big no no around 2000?

Search the forum. Often all it takes is pressing the electrical ribbon for better connection.
The clusters have a chip, who holds odometer count. Not sure how it works on W210, but transferring the chip to new cluster is common issue.

1. Ribbon Soldering - as KJ says - "some" owners have "shimmed" that connection and restored correct connection - if you are not familiar with Ribbon Soldering - and don't have correct Temp Adjustable T-Bar - and again don't have Ribbon Soldering Experience - then frankly you are best served NOT doing DIY - search eBay/Web for a cluster repair service familiar this this job .
2. Your W210 will start & operate without a Cluster - but that's wierd staring into the empty.
3. You DON'T want to switch clusters if you can avoid it - as any Mileage Discrepancy that gets picked up for whatever reason by CarFax is a "BIG" black mark - "speedometer discrepancies" it's called. There used to be services who could take your Current Mileage and put that in a transplant cluster and you were good. There aren't those "old tech" guys around anymore really. Transplant cluster needs same part#/series# as the cluster it is replacing

It was interesting to read about ribbon soldering and then the T soldering iron tool was clever too. I read about all of this before I heard about shimming LCDs being the initial repair.
Fabbrisd1......If I was to plug in a different cluster, would it just show the mileage of the old cluster but would otherwise work ok?
Just curious so I know for future
