Oil Level Sensor

Hello all, today I got my car inspected and they ended up finding that the oil level sensor is leaking. For that leak, I wanna try replacing the o ring that is a part of the sensor. But one thing, I do not wanna drop that oil pan, has anyone done this job before and if so, did you end up having to take the oil pan out?

Thanks for reading all!

I toyed with the idea of doing this however was told by several people that the heat would have warped the sensor (hence the leak), replacing the o-ring won't remedy the leak, and that you're better off just replacing the oil level sensor instead.

The sensor pulls straight down out of the oil pan. No need to drop the pan but you will have to drain the oil first. Photos are from my 2005 M113K engine.

I just changed the oring on my oil level sensor this morning. Super easy, no more leaks. Have a drain pan available because about 3 quarts will come out once you take those two screws out. Good luck

I wish I had that part, but sadly for the E430 its a different part, looks like theres a part inside of it as well with the top part being similar

Is it any different than yours?

I was wondering when I saw the earlier post whether the 430 had that part. Mine was inside the oil pan too. I bought the o-ring and did mine during an oil change. Had to reseal the pan with rtv. Its best to have the car level cause you don't want oil to run down interfering with the rtv seal.

I have an E320 and it was necessary to pull the pan to change the oil level sensor. Just wanted to throw that out there for when someone with one will probably come across this in a search.

Honestly, popping out the pan for an oil leak sounds like doing too much work for too small of a problem. I will probaly end up spending the $5 for the o ring to keep in the garage just in case but at this point, I think I am not gonna deal with it unless a) the leaking gets worse or b) it turns out I dont have to pop the pan

Honestly its not that bad of a job- a little messy at best. Mine had dirt and grime around the o ring coming from the top and in my case my lower pan was seeping anyway. Its also a good chance to clean and reseal the bottom of the oil pan of course when you are ready.
