Happy GRAND birthday, rare E-class pictures !!

I took a half day off and got home early. As my car pull in front of a garage, I realize that I just about to witness a VERY VERY rare event: my 98 E320 is about to hit a 100K mark, right in front of my door. How many people can claim to have that happen to them ???

As I put in 60K mile mile in the last 20 months (got it at 40K mile), I must have said that it's a pretty good car, it's way way more lively than other cars that we currently own (96 GS300 and 04 W211). As the car hits the grand mark, it still look and feel as new. Except for the infamous dashboard crack at airbag (all W210 ??), there's no crack, rattle, abnormal noise. Engine is still as smooth & powerful as ever (my mechanic said there's nothing needed to be done for the car !!). As the matter of fact, there's no difference in engine performance between my W210 and W211, except for the fact that my W210 handles better thanks to upgrade shock & wheels. And I HATE the SBC hiss on my W211, that's one of the reason I don't rack much mileage on it.

For the 100K, beside regular maintenaince (tune up, filter, oil, brake, tires..) & my upgrades, it's has been quite reliable. List of things went wrong that was fixed are: MAF, RR window regulator, steering column cover get lose, and .... that's all !!! .By the time my BMW E39 hit 100K mile 5 years ago, I almost file for BK because of repair bills !!.

Took couple pictures of the event. They don't mean much, except for the fact that it's unlikely to be witness & taken again !!.

Pretty good day huh ???? With all of the gadgets & upgrade that I have put in the car, hopefully there're more good time rolling .

Received quite a few PM asking about source of my add-on. For quick, I got most of them from either eBay or electronic store.

Here's what I could remmember from my lousy memory:

* Clarion TV (TVX 5653): $300. eBay. I've tried several type of monitor, and this is the only model that could fit into the compactment and allow the door to be closed (monitor have to out far enough). And it came w/ built-in TV tuner.

* Clarion VCR: $150. eBay
* Mobile DVD: $120. Fry's
* MP3 Jukebox (Archos 15GB): $200. Circuit City.
* Valentine 1: $400. V1 Website.
* Chrome cluster ring: $45. eBay
* Chrome door sill: $150. eBay
* Chrome trunk lid: $50. eBay
* CL 500 shift knob: $70. eBay
* 17" rims, limited edition W210: $400, from a member in this forum. Another $400 for chroming.
* Bilsten HD: $450. FastLane
* New style tail light: $250. SteveNL.
* New style headlight: $430. But gf keep whining about spend more time & $$ on car then her ...blabla.., so I let it to other forum member. Probably will buy another set soon (now that I have hella projector ??? ).
* I also got a Pioneer GPS (Avic-9DVD), mobile PC, and backup camera (bought from eBay also). But didn't like the way they work (cause too much distraction), so took them out and sold back on eBay.

I'm sure there're other things here and there done to the car, can't remmember for now.

I did most of the work myself, except for the shock. So not much $$ on labor. Had I went to store, labor would probably kill this upgrade hobby.

Just got a pair of Hella HID projector today (came from the W211), I'm thinking about what to do w/ it for my W210. It's very bright & cool. Any suggestion ? I am thinking about buying a new style headlight (again !!) and put them on.

Zam2000:

You just broke her in at 100,000!

60,000 miles in 20 months is amazing.
I have 96 E320 with 147,800 miles and it drives almost like new too.
At the rate your going, you will catch up to me soon.

Also, do you use the V1 with or with out the concealed display?

I know, car is broke in at 100K mile. On my old W124, I got more than 200K Mile before I sold it to my brother friend. He still has it now, at 250K, and car still run fine.

Mercedes used to build cars that make you feel attach to it (both W124 and W210): look, feel, and handling. It's not possible to say that for their latest line. My W211 has less than 3K mile, after almost 5 months. I just don't feel attach to it at all. Granted, car is beautiful, but that's all, no soul & no characteristic & ultra-anoying SBC hiss (same as air-head blond !!!). I guess my gf will get to drive it after we get married.

I hope the W210 is good enough to give me 200K. I really like it.

I used to have a remote display for the V1 in the cluster. Now that I have the chrome cluster ring, I take out the remote display, since it's kind of ruin the cluster look. I only use the V1 for out of town trips anyway, most of my daily commute sucks.
