W210 full throttle problem

Hello! First of all i'm sorry if my english is not understandable at some points, its not my native language :-)

First things first, car is W210 E240 gasoline, -99 facelift model with 5-speed automatic (722.6 i presume) with around 200k kilometers driven.

I've been owning this car for a year now and the problem has been occured since.

So the problem is, when i press kickdown/full throttle, it most of the times just increases rpm to the ~5000rpm with no acceleration. Acceleration comes after like 2-3seconds and obviously because of such high rpms, it has to upshift almost instantly.

I think problem is somewhat dependant of the current speed, for example it seems it happens almost always around 70km/h, but for example, at 80km/h+ i think it doesnt happen like ever.

This is how it goes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDXq...ature=youtu.be

Some information about transmission maintenance history: Past year the transmission fluids have been changed 2 times with filter, the "electric socket at the tranny?" was leaking so it also changed. Also before my ownership the tranny fluids has been changed atleast once before.
The mechanic said last time when i asked was there any dirt in the oil pan when the tranny fluids was changed, he said something like "it looked surprisingly clean".

Also the TCU has been checked 3 times now from different mechanics that there is no oil in there, its clean.

Fault codes has been readed in 2 different workshops, only one fault code from tranny: "The torque converter lock-up clutch causes a sporadic impermissible closing"
I'm not expert and i dont know alot of cars, but as far as i've been told that problem should be only for torque lock up solenoid, and it shouldn't be related to the problem i'm having now.

Latest workshop told me that the cure for this problem could be whole new (used obviously) transmission. I don't really want to do that before i could be 100% sure the problem is in the transmission itself, but obviously no one can guarantee that to me. It costs so much, and if the problem was not it.... you know the drill.

Little bit more detail of how the transmission behaves:

- If i accelerate hard from 0km/h, this problem never occurs.
- Transmission is not slipping
- If i just tap the gas pedal (not all the way down) it downshifts one gear, and the problem doesn't occur here either ever.
- Transmission changes gears somewhat "harshly", especially 1 to 2 and 2 to 1, but there is no slipping.

I've been trying to set my mind into thinking "if it breaks, it breaks. its 20years old car and value is pretty much zero for it", but as this car does have so good maintenance history with all the tickets etc, and such a low mileages, i dont really want to let it go :-(

I've been desperately trying to find help for this problem from workshops around here, and from my countrys local forums, but i havent given any answers really. This place is pretty much my last hope. Help me guys!

Welcome Dislocation,

You need to post the error code # that was scanned.

Hey! Thx for the reply. Unfortuntely i didn't check the code number that patiently, but i think it was 2-digit code. I could be wrong tho.

But the mechanic said that the fault code should not be connected to the problem i'm having, as the fault code apparently indicates either torque converter, or torque converter lockup solenoid problem? It is a fault yes, but i rather focus on the kickdown/throttle problem first!

The problem is with your transmission, could be the solenoids or the worst, that are the friction disks that are going bad. In the last case, you have to have your transmission under repair.

if you buy a MB code reader it will check tranny for you. foxwell nt20 I think is the one I use

nothing seems wrong IMO. at least your car accelerates, mine is a snail and would never redline like that. it has issues but who knows what they are.

keep in mind this car was tuned for ZERO fun

Now that i took a moment again to reproduce the problem, it actually seems that when this problem happens, gearbox drops gear all the way to the 2nd gear, whereas normally when this problem doesn't happen, it drops only to the 3rd. As i also said, problem is related to the current speed, for example when driving 70km/h, the problem happens very often, but for example driving 80km/h the problem never happens.

Refer back to post #2.
Otherwise, you're just playing whack-a-mole.
