I am thinking about reducing the body roll of my 2001 E430 by swapping the E55 spring set and maybe thinner spring pads. Does anyone have any opinion on whether or not this is a good idea?

I don't know...but I am intrigued by your proposal. Why not do a little investigative work and compare part numbers
as well as spring weights and compare them? MB parts list will give you part number clue...same for something like
Bilstein spring catalog showing fitment and interchange. They're probably in the ballpark.

So I spoke with a parts guy in the UK. I am actually picking up the springs for for a w208 CLK55 AMG in the UK. They said it will fit and use the same spring pads. It will give me about an inch drop.

2x A2083240204 rear blue
2x A2103213204 front red/silver

Those are the parts numbers.
