E320 4-matic shift box fun

160K miles. Symptoms are the box gets stuck in P when its cold and stays in 1st when its cold, revs up then shifts late. Stops at about 60C coolant temp. I got the the box out of the car, first thing I noticed is that the green bushing that connects the linkage to the box is AWOL. Prolly unrelated. My plan was to clean all the contacts and lube the Park release linkage. I got the cover off, but I need some adult supervision to remove the circuit board cover on top, w/o breaking it. And a shout out to the local dealer, Victoria Star Mercedes, who sold me the bushing and clip for $6.11 CDN. That's cheaper than mail order and ebay, even w/ tax. That NEVER happens.

Cover and mechanism

Looking up into the cover.

OK, I didn't realize the bushing was gone till I lifted the box out, and I doubt there were codes to read. I've pressed in the new bushing, just oiled the obvious bearings, and reassembled the unit. Hopefully I can reinstall it with no net damage.

Is there a way to read tranny codes w/o a standalone reader?

A gaggle of MB's
Not knowing your model year - and not knowing what exterior temps are - and not knowing if you had a CEL - and not even knowing your tranny fluid level or fluid condition - then anyone is "guessing".

I would say the "bushing" is not something that would cause "cold shift problem that goes away over 60C"

MY in sig (01) and 160K miles. "Cold" as in below freezing. I bought a tranny dipstick and adjusted the level after I replaced the radiator (due to the rad including a tranny cooler). So picky. I was hoping for a similar symptom and the underlying cause in that case. I'm gonna just put it all back so I can drive it and see what happens this winter.
