E320 1999 Illumination control module

Getting a message, bulb out, no license plate lights working. Mechanic says faulty illumination control module. Any suggestions? Mechanic can’t find the part. OEM part number. Any help would be appreciated. BCV

Your mechanic obviously does not know MB cars. If a light bulb is out change the light bulb. What is so difficult about that!!!
PS there is no light bulb control unit.

You have to remove or loosen trunk lid liner to replace license plate bulbs from the inside. No access from outside of trunk.

Illumination control module

Well I was not clear enough. At times the license plate lights work, then it doesn’t, mind of its own. My mechanic indicated it’s the illumination control module. Still looking for part # and picture of it to find replacement. Whenever I turn lights on get message “Lamp Defective “ Thx. Brad

There is no specific illumination control module per sa, if you read your manual you will see which button controls the illumination as it is built into the IC.
You need to open the trunk look at the unit, move things around, change bulbs or bla bla, but dont go back to your brother in law mechanic for advice
