CD Shuttle

Hi all, new to the forum and would like some guidance.

I have purchased a 2001 e240 w210 which comes with the CD shuttle in the boot (Trunk) The problem I am experiencing is as follows:
I place cd's into the Magazine and insert. The radio will then start to play the cd but every few seconds it goes dead, no sound. When i look at the CD spin in the shuttle, it definitely seems to slow down every few seconds when in my view it should be a constant speed when it spins. I have plugged another shuttle in as well and it does the exact same thing? What could the issue be? Any guidance will be appreciated.

one thought: if the music disc are ones you burned yourself, it is a known issue as the MB CD players are
finicky and unforgiving with data which may not have as clearly defined 'pits' of information...compred to
commercially burned music CDs.

if all of your CDs are commercially made, I don't have any experience with such an anomaly

A gaggle of MB's
Let me get this straight in my head - you have a 19yr old Vintage CD Player that has been in the trunk of that Mercedes for 19yrs - I wouldn't chase that ghost

I have one that is 23 years old that works fine, so it is not unreasonable to expect it to work. It sounds like there is something wrong with the drive that turns the disk. I would check for lube on the drive or see if the disk is rubbing on anything, but I can't be very helpful because mine has worked fine.

Hi Raymond, thank you for the reply. It does this with both types of diss privately burned and commercially bought originals.

what fabbrisd1 said has merit. i've dismantled a changer and found the gel donuts which serve as shock
absorber/cushion had deteriorated severely. the exterior rubber was hard and not compliant. that was
just a singular observation, however. the MB changers have proven not to be very durable and are
sensitive to digital recording methods, poor cassette alignment, etc. nelbur, you are blessed so maybe
it's a good time to buy a lotto ticket. it is becoming a rarity that the w210 CD changers are still functioning
smoothly.

i pulled mine out (my 3rd one now) and only using the single slot CD in my MB head unit (Euro spec)
under the Audio10 label in place of the OE installed Audio 30 you find in most USA w210s.

Haa! Luckily mine's still working, but I gotta agree with fabbrisd1. Get a new unit with USB ports and Bluetooth. They're not that much.
