Tyre size on 19s

I bought four 19inch monoblock amg rims all with 8.5 width for my 420 sport. I was going for the usual 245/35 front and 275/30 rear combo but my local wheel dude told me that the rear combo will look weird with the big tires on narrow rims. He advise to go 245/35 all round. I think that will look off. I am thinking 265/30 for the rears to give a beafier look. Any thoughts on tire size for looks and safety on 8.5s all round?

255s probably the most you could go on 8.5" wheels, looks beefy enough without being overboard. 275 or 265 is just too much rubber for the width. However, depending on the offset, you might need to do some spacers in the rear to get a more aggressive stance.

Thanks Whitney for your reply. By 255, you mean 255/30 right? I dont know the offset but the wheels used to be on a Pre 2001 S-class. How big should the spacers be @ the rear to get the look of a, say 9.5 or 10 width wheel. Thanks.

Yep, 255/30.

BTW, fender alignment depends on offset as well as wheel widths, so your question should be what spacer is needed to get it to look decent

Unfortunately, I'm sorry to say that you've just joined the club! Many (including me) have fallen into the trap of getting S wheels for our cars once before.

The bolt shape/lug seat (and I think diameter) and offsets are way off on the S. If your wheels were made for an S (unless they have made compromizes with wheels from other cars), the offset of those wheels are ET44. Therefore you will need at least a 15-20mm spacer to get ET24-31, a decent fender alignment out back - which would look similar to std AMG rear setup 9"/ ET35 (using a 20mm one.....make sure its hubcentric e.g. H&R!!!). 10mm will do and probably easier since longer bolts are more difficult to come by, but with an offset of ET34, your alignment (and handling) will not be as good as with the 15-20mm ones and will probably look like they stick in further than the front (depending on the front's offset).

Also make sure the lug seats are made for those particular wheels so that contact with the wheel is not compromized.

Personally however, I would just try to replace them (which is exactly what I did) with some proper 9" ET35's but I don't think AMG makes this spec on the 19" Mono II wheel (they are Mono II's right?). So I guess you've only the option of getting spacers and longer bolts (N.B. don't ever compromize your safety with shorter easily available ones!!!!!). Good luck in any case.
