Just bought a '99 E430 Sport - suggestions?

Recently bought a ’99 E430 on BAT. Seller/dealer says no oil leaks, actually found that there are two, one tranny and one engine. Seller’s recommended mechanic says that rear main tranny seal has to be replaced, also two motor mounts need replacing and have to replace some bushings. Went for second opinion at a high-end German specialist and they say:

· Real seal OK on transmission is not leaking and leak repair involves replacing A/T plug adaptor (where leak is) and replacing the conductor plate as well as a transmission service.

· Engine oil leak - Replace upper oil pan gasket

· Motor mounts are like new and appear to have been recently replaced.

· No indication that bushings need replacing.

· At just under 100k miles shocks should be replaced (little noisy when gong over bumps) Need recommendation of brand and model for standard Elegance ride.

· Needs brake fluid flush

· Should do alignment

· Should do cooling system service (wrong color coolant)

· Front pads have 30% left – creates a great deal of brake dust even on short trips. Advised to replace with ceramic (need recommendation on what brakes components to get including what brand and model and material– I do like looks of slotted what do you think?)

Note the conflict. Who’s right? I’m thinking of getting a MB dealer PPI to see what they say.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance if you can help me out on this.

Rick

Welcome Rick. I think an MB dealer PPI is your best bet. They'll be the ones who know the car best.
