Blinking Low Gas Light (Check Engine)

My check engine light is on. Been busy and didn't get a chance to have it check out. I went to Autozone and they said that it is the gas cap. I purchased a replacement from the dealer, but light is still on. Once in awhile I would get a blinking low gas light. Does anybody know what's wrong?

Surprising my check engine light mysteriously disappear the last few days (knock on wood), but once in awhile I will still get the blinking low gas light even when there are plenty of gas left on the car. Varies from a full tank to a quarter tank. Strange. Anybody know the cause?

Make sure your gas cap is screwed on tight.

I had the same problem with my 97 E420 Instead of getting it checked out I traded it in for an E55

The light comes and goes but i'll tell you this Its not the gas cap

It is definitely not the gas cap because I purchased a new one from Mercedes dealership and it still gives me the same problem.

In that case, it would be helpful to know what the code is. Typically, a loose gas cap will cause the low fuel light to flash. My next guess is a leak in the evap purge system, but again, it is just a guess since I don't know what the actual fault code is.
