Transmission - / + Manushift
Anybody else have any gripes with the - / + manual upshift / downshift function on their W210 5-speed automatic? In practice, this function is little more than a suggestion to the ECU which decides it'll shift when it's good and ready. It's actually quite frustrating because this 5-speed is essentially the same transmission that Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep has been using in their 300/Charger/JK Wrangler vehicles up until a couple years ago (albeit somewhat updated now). I'vre driven those vehicles with their 5-speed autos, and when you + or -, it obeys pretty much instantly.
So the question is: is there an ECU software update or part replacement that'll transform our flaccid 5-speeds into something more obedient? I mean, after all, Germans should know how to take orders without hesitation, no?

You realize that the W210 chassis is essentially still in use with Stellantis' Charger/Challenger platforms, right? And that the 5-speed transmission in my 21-year-old W210 is nearly identical to the trannies Chrysler was using up to a few years ago? Not sure I agree with your intimation that there's no way to "fix" the laggardly shift personality of my sedan. But I appreciate your perspective. That's why I posited the question. : D
