Jackplates

The factory trunk jack has 2 slots milled in the shaft that slips into the rocker panels. It does not appear that the E-class (at least not my 2001 E55) has a keyed socket to require these grooves/slots. I want to make up a jackplate like the one pictured for use on my car and feel a completely round shaft would be much stronger.

Does anyone know which Mercedes models require the milled slots in the jack insert? SD

You are correct, the slot is not a keyed slot, merely a round hole. Why not just use a floor jack underneath the car in the same place as the slots? There are jackpads about 3" in at all 4 jack holes.

Jacking up the car via the jackplate allows me full undercar access for proper placement of the jackstands. It also protects the underside from damage from the jack. SD (PS- Ben...if you work with Brad at EvoSport, he uses the same type of jackplate on his E36 cars)
