Much to my chagrin, after owning my 1999 W210 E55 for over seven years, I learned it had cabin air filters behind the glove box. While replacing those filters, I discovered a small incandescent bulb hanging inside the dash. I have no idea where it goes and I am hoping someone here does. I thought it might be a night light for the passenger side vent but, after removing the vent to inspect it, I could find no place where the bulb and socket would mount.
The black socket laying on the insulation connects to the glove box light. The light in question is the one hanging down from the top of the dashboard.
Ideas welcome!
