Wheel and Tire Comments
Hello,

I am in the process of configuring a 2002 E430 4Matic Special Edition and have a question regarding an optional wheel/tire combination. Does anybody have any comments regarding their experience with going from a standard 17x7.5 to the 18x8 / 18x9 AMG II set-up? Is there a major difference in ride harshness?

I really didn't notice too much of a change in harshness. I only found that cornering was a bit better.

Welcome to the board. When do you get the E? I don't know where you live, but if you go 18's watch out for potholes. You are more susceptible to wheel damage and the ride is a little harsher. I once trashed a 17" wheel on a pothole with 235/45/17.

2010 E63 AMG, 2000 E430 Sport, Dodge Charger SRT8
18" wheels
I have 8" x 18" wheels on my E430 Sport with absolutely no problems. The wheel/tire combo I have actually rides better than the 17" that came on it. I highly recommend the switch.

Also if you're going for looks you should get 19"s! Really stand out. But watch out for potholes!

Thanks again everyone for your comments. I purchased the car today (in what seemed like 30 minutes!) and did opt for the E55 AMG set-up. I have the stock ones until Thursday, but after then...

I'm going to keep monitoring this forum for other helpful hints!
