Bilstein users... help!

guys, I just got the
Bilstein HD installed with stock springs... for 2000 E320
didn't want to lower the car.

why is it that the FRONT SHOCKS ARE SHORTER than the rear shocks?
Front: B36-2156 (the front shocks were yellow)
Rear: B36-2155 (rear... black)

is that suppose to be that way?

I notice the model numbers are a little different for 96-99 and 99-2002
the guy told me the rears shocks are the same for all the years...
because he gave me the parts Rear: B36-2155 which is for 96-99

is that correct?

I question it because with the original shocks, the fronts are longer than the rears.

can anyone clarify this?

HERE is the Specs I got from E-Klasse.

For 96 to 99 W210:
Bilstein Sport (Lowered)
Front: B36-2156
Rear: B36-2157

Bilstein Heavy Duty (Stock)
Front: B36-2154
Rear: B36-2155

For 2000 to 2002:

Bilstein Sport
Front: BE3-A057-H0
Rear: BE3-A058-H0

Bilstein Heavy Duty
Front: B36-2156
Rear: BE3-A056-H0

thanks

The shocks that I got for my 96 are:
Bilstein Heavy Duty (Stock Height)
Front: B36-2154
Rear: B36-2155

It is not unusual for the length to be different from front to rear as long as the shocks you are putting in are the same length as the ones you are taking out. The W210 went through a face lift after 99 and the front was lowered.

If you buy new OEM shock, the front is also shorter than rear. Just that after a long usage, the front shock lot all beat up and lost its tightness. When you remove it from car, it got pulled during the removal, and give the impression of being longer.

HD Suspension

An HD suspension on a luxury car will be higher in the back to accomodate extra weight from passengers and luggage. Ever see an empty limo leave the airport? They are about 3 or four inches higher in the rear!

2001 E430
I don't mean to hijack this thread, but want to ask a related question regarding the Bilstiens. I will be installing stock US E55 springs with #1 spring pads all around (or a mix of #1 and #2 to even things out once I look at it) into my 2001 E430.

My question is: should I use HD or SP shocks?? I'm not looking for a slammed look. Just want to get as close to E55 as possible - maybe SLIGHTLY lower.

From what I've read, there is no difference in shock rate. There is only a difference in length (HD for stock, SP for lowered cars). I've also read that the stock E55 shocks are slightly modified HD's. That leads me to believe that I should install the HD's.

By the way, my mind is set, and I already have the springs, so please no comments that I should use Eibach or H&R springs. I'm soooo close to having things installed. Just need to make this final decision.

Thanks for any help,
Antony

that's normal, mine too are exactly like that on my W210 E55- front is longer than the rear.

where did you get that info.? It was designed like that. the front are longer than the rear. I've seen a new set (just to verify that my OEM shocks when we pulled out) and the shocks for the Front - 210 323 5600 is longer than the Rear - 210 326 2300 ( this is the OEM part numbers btw. for W210 E55 yr 00-02 )
