1-Pin or 2-Pin Rear Calipers/Pads
Can anyone tell by looking at my rear calipers if I need the 1-pin or 2-pin rear pads. Or, is it a VIN thing?

Mike,
Looks like my calipers. I have a code, presumably the width of rotor and size of rotor? (36/290) stamped into the caliper.
Looked at my replacement pads and to answer your question, they're a 1 pin rear caliper/pad combo. The pin is in the center of the opening, middle of the pad.

FatC, that is what I was thinking (the one pin in the middle). However, pad vendors are wanting to know my VIN. The last 6 digits in my VIN are 142128. Several vendors, according to the VIN, say I need a 2-pin pad.
Need more info.

maybe Alex or Ben can figure out what years need 2 pin and what years need 1 pin pads. Is it model dependent? It seems all w210 cars have the same brakes(except AMG), but different rear calipers.
If your 2000 E430 uses the same as my '98 E430, perhaps all E430s use the same rears? Maybe a quick call to the dealer may clear up the confusion or is that where the confusion is coming from?
