I am fixing up a 1999 e320 4matic wagon. can someone tell me what this part is called? It is dangling from the right rear suspension in front of the axle. Appears to attach to the arm pictured.

What does this do? Do I really need it functioning? I am trying to sort out a sagging rear suspension. I have a leak in the hydraulic fluid line running from the engine to fix. How much pressure does this system operate under. Can I fix i with a piece of soft fuel hose? Thanks for the help
