1997 E-320 oil change

If I have been using standard oil can I change to synthetic?

If yes what is the process and change intervals?

What is the difference in cost ?

You can switch over at any time. The life of the synthetic will be longer than the hydrocarbon oil so you can extend your change interval. True synthetics like AMSOil can go 10K miles between changes. You can check the oil to see how dirty it is getting and decide how long you feel comfortable leaving it in. You might be more comfortable going 7500 mile between oil changes with AMSOil inside your engine. The nice thing about the Mercedes engine is that you can swap the filter out sooner than that if you like without draining the oil. Maybe do a filter at 3K and the oil at 6K for example. Plan on spending $6 per quart or so for synthetic oil. It is not very cost effective to put synthetic oil in and still change it out at 3K miles.
