AMG Wheel Quality
Just curious if anyone has had trouble with the clearcoat coming off AMG wheels. In particular, the Monoblock II type as installed on E55s. I had a set that I bought from Tire Rack a coupla years ago on a 95 E420. Literally right as the warranty expired, the clearcoat finish started peeling off and I had to have them refinished. I use no harsh cleansers, kept them waxed, etc. Really love AMG wheels, but not sure of the quality. Any thoughts?

Compared to my wifes Lexus (aprox. same mileage), the wheels on my last 3 AMG's seem to be more prone to rock chips, etc.,! Of course having huge AMG wheels doesn't help: those 18 inches of wheel are exposed to a lot of road crap!

Salt from the road ?
One of the main reasons for the clear coating being eaten is salt from the road in winter. Also any type of corrosive wheel cleaner. My local tyre place says AMG are really superb quality, I'm not arguing. Here they are not so popular and many CLKs have the stock 16" wheels.
I have 17" AMG Monoblock I (I think) and they come off Nov and go back on in April. They are still in perfect condition.
