E300TD 1999 W210 Power Steering Fluid

Can anyone tell me what is the correct PSF for this vehicle? There seems to be a lot of confusion on various forums, including this one, with some saying MB P/N BQ1460001 others saying MB P/N Q1320001. Unfortunately it is not in the manual. Called MB and they are having to go away and think about it! Given that it is important to get the right one if anyone knows for sure..........

The dealer had to have my VIN to get the right fluid which turned out to be the 14600001 fluid (1999 E320 gas sedan). I recall the parts guy saying it had something to do with an optional hydraulic rear leveling system or something like that. FWIW, mine was losing fluid. It turned out to be a hairline crack in the power steering fluid reservoir.

You can buy the stuff on Amazon cheaper than the dealer -
Amazon Amazon

If needed, there are 2 and 3 packs lower down on the page that save you a few bucks (2 for $38, etc).

Davmil Thank you for the helpful reply. I have now got to the bottom of this. The MB P/n I need is 001 989 20 03 which meets MB spec 344.0. It does seem to have something to do with the SLS as well. The oil you quote BQ1460001 is MB P/n 000 989 88 03 which apparently meets MB spec 236.3. After trying to get a straight answer to this question I discovered that the MB P/n is written on the reservoir cap! I'd be interested to know if you have the number I quoted on your cap.

NigelS, no, nothing written on my power steering filler cap nor on the dipstick itself. As I mentioned, my reservoir is an aftermarket...don't know if original had any markings on it. The owners manual covers a lot of models and doesn't specify anything beyond "Genuine MB fluid".
