Check engine light

I know this topic has been discussed a million times, but heres my problem.
Last night I was driving and my gas gauge went into the yellow as soon as it did my CEL went on. I know from the service records at least 1 O2 senor was changed around 10k ago. The car runs finne and it averaging 21 mpg. I checked the air filter and its filthy tons of leaves and other crap in the airbox( I just picked the car up). Could this cause a Check engine light due to restricted airflow? Can I clean the MAS instead of relacing it.
I forgot to mention my car is a 2000 e430 with 57k on it and I think the MAS is original, but I don't want to blow 200+ bucks right now if it isn't bad. How do you remove the MAS?

You can go to AutoZone and tell them that you have a check engine light. They will run the diagnosis check for you for FREE.

Its not realy a diagnosis, they just pull the codes which can point you in the right direction.

OK I checked the codes it showed code 0170 and code 0173 left and right fuel banks out of sinc. Could this be caused by the air cleaner being so clogged up? I checked with Benz and they show that one of the upstream o2 sensors was changed around 5k miles ago.

Well I changed the air filter and cleaned the AMM with non-residue cleaner but after about 2 hrs of driving the light CEL kicked back on. So Tomorrow I'm going to Mercedes and buying a new AMM and hoping that cures the problem. I know that sounds silly but I hate to pay Mercedes 120.00 to run a diagnostic on the car then find out its the AMM. I figure I might as well replace the AMM then if thats not it replace the O2 sensor that wasn't replaced.

Gas Cap

since the codes are pointing towards the fuel tank. Did you check your gas cap? I had the same problem after the wifey loaded some gas. She did not replace the cap properly! Or maybe its the seal of the gas cap.

Yup gas cap is in good order, I just had the car smogged and in PA they check the cap when they do emissions testing. Well I purchased a new MAF, I get them for 200.00 and changed it out (took all of abotu a min.) then had my MB dealer reset the adaptations valves....WOW the car runs way better it even shifts smoother. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the light stays off but so far so good.
