Warning Lights After Battery Disconnect?

Disconnected/reconnected my battery several times while doing body work this weekend. When I finally reconnected it upon completion of repairs, I was met with BAS and ESP warning lights upon start-up. I drove the vehicle very briefly and they remained on. I turned it off and then back on again thinking the system would reset. It didn't. Same warning lights.

I shut it off and parked it. My son took it to the store shortly thereafter. A short hop trip of a few miles. This morning: no lights.

Is this normal behavior? It takes the car a few miles to reset the systems? Just curious.

Whenever the battery is disconnected you must reset the steering wheel angle sensor. You do this by turning the steering wheel lock to lock a couple of times. That resets the sensor parameters and the ESP lights will go out.
