Reinstall c panel trim early w210

I've a 1997 E300 and I removed the c panel trim while working on stuff. I can't figure out the proper replacement procedure. It seems the 4 tabs on the bottom have to go into the slots by the rear shelf first, but I can't get them in there. Any advice?

I've had to get under the headliner and C pillar several times but I didn't touch the rear shelf (that I recall). I removed the rear seat back, R&R the headrests ... but don't recall having any challenges returning things back into operation. Maybe a Youtube video showing rear brake light or servicing the rear deck speakers might help.

I didn't touch the rear shelf either. Just can't get those c panel tabs inserted into the shelf slots.

Perhaps we'll understand it better is if you describe with more detail what it is which is preventing you from inserting the tabs into the slots?

Alignment. The tabs are are too close to the metal bodywork. I get the panel as flush to the bodywork as I can, but the tabs won't line up to drop in the slots. It's a VERY difficult place to photograph. Can you see the panel tabs in the first pic above, and a couple rear shelf slots in the second? Maybe I'll try a video tomorrow.

You need to insert the tabs into the slots first first. Hold the panel at a angle then insert into the slots. When the tabs are in the slot you can tilt the panel upright and install on the pillar.

That's what I assumed, thanks for confirming.

I haven't found that angle yet. I guess it's just trial and error, and I'm all error so far.
