My E320 still rattles. I hear the rattles as if it is coming from between the trunk and the rear seat. I secured the spare tire, I emptied the trunk and the rear seat from any possible rattle maker. I check everything and everything is tight. I check the battery under the rear seat and it tight. The rattle is heard only when I hit a little pump on the road and it sounds like a piece of plastic rattle-ing. What could it be!!
I drive E320 yr 2000, with 45k miles.

Have you checked the package tray and the headrests in the back? I know when you hit a bump the headrests will "jump up". You could also try putting them in the fully up position and see if that goes away.
Also... maybe it's the sunroof shade hitting the back of the headliner if it sounds like it's coming from the back.
I have a rattle coming from my passenger door, with passengers in the front and rear seats everyone thinks it's coming from somewhere else in the car... these things are hard to pinpoint sometime...
Good luck

That sounds good
I always have the rear headrest in the up position. I am ruling this possibility out. It is good one thu becuase I thouhgt it was going up & down on a pump when I WAS hearing the rattle.
I like your suggestion about the sunroof shade. Last night I closed it to make sure it is not the root cause.
In addition, I extra tightened the Jack around the spare tire. Then Made sure I have 30psi in front tire and 34 psi in rear following the psi requirements for this car. I drove it for 3 miles last night and I did not hear the rattle like I used. But, I can not say for sure it is gone until i drive it more. I will know more by tomorrow.
At this point, you maybe right about the sunroof shade. I will try it with & w/o to see if it is the trouble maker.
Thanks

Not a Benzer anymore
First Aid Kit / Cup Holders &
You should get a friend to drive you around while you're in the back seat... (or sit up front, passenger side, with the seat back all the way back until its close to the back seat (without touching)... Then hit those bumps!!!

E430
a long time ago I had this happen with my E430. It turned out to be a bad rear shock. The seal blew and the shock made a rattle and banging noise whenever I hit a bump.
It was fixed under warranty back then. The car had maybe 3K on the car at that time.
Take a peek under the car and look at the shock on the side where you notice the noise coming from. If you see oil on the outside body of the shock, chances are good, the shock is blown.
Hope that helps,
-travis

I suspected that after all few suggestions I received from others. I will do that. I think it is from rear right tire. I will let you know. Thanks

Rattles
I had two rattles and one squeak on my E430, all of which have been repaired:
1. The rear deck was missing a clip. When I closed the trunk I could see the rear deck move. Solution: "R & R rear deck cover and reinstall clip for rear deck cover".
2. The sunroof shade on my 2001 E430 rattled, especially when open (allowing light through). The dealer made two modifications, each a year apart:
a - "771220 R & R sunroof and add felt to back of glass.
680000 R & R partial headliner - left side and insulate at sunroof area"
This repair worked for about a year.
b - 681617 "R & R "C" pillars, handles and headliner to insulate sunroof
frame from the headliner using foam tape"
The rattle has been gone for almost two years since the second repair.
3. The only other noise I had was a squeak coming from one of the rear headrests when hitting a bump. The dealer lubricated all the headrest assemblies.
The car has been quiet and solid ever since.
Good Luck

$47 later at the dealer, the smart man says, no problem. No shock issue no apparant mechanical issue and nor any interior issues either. He says, there will be some interior noise in the car. a $50k car with noise !!!!. I can not believe it !!!. We test driove it, & the sound happens, he tells me it is normal !!! I do not buy it. The rattle is still happening and it does not seem right. It is coming from what it looks like from user the rear speakers. I can not find anything lose out there. !!! any suggestions !!!

Yeah on my C280 that was the problem and it fixed it right away... they just tightened them up... did the dealer check that?
And I, too, have some rattling near the back of my E420... will be checking it out as well... let me know if you find out what is wrong.

Fixed finally and you won;t believe how!!!!
The rattling is finally gone. MB dealer could nto find anything. I finally replace the snow tires on my car which I bought that way, and guess what, the car is smooth and no more rattling. It turned out in y case, the fricking snow tires where casuign the entire car to rattle everytime i hti an uneven road. They are gone now. New tires on the car already. decided to get it done today. Love my new Yokohama A430 V rated. Quiet, smooth, perfect handling and suppose to work wonders on wet and snow roads with 60k miles warrantee. The fricking snow tires are history. Finally no more rattling.
