S210 E320 4Matic with E55 engine swap
Cut straight to the chase. I’m a sucker for wagons. Had 2 GM station wagons with the wood panels growing up. Anyways, I’m looking at getting a 2002 E320 4 Matic Wagon but I’m curious about putting in an E55 engine in it. Will it actually work? Engine, mounts, wiring harness, etc? I’m not a mechanic, but I believe it would be a 119? Of course I’d look for a 98-03 E55. Question is, would it work? Is the e320 frame strong enough? The 4 matic strong enough? Just curious.

Better to pull the V8 out of an E430 and drop in an E55 engine. Straight swap as done by others before. The V6 of the E320 means new electrical harness and installing the ME for the V8 5.5 liter engine. Changing the ME means installing the matching steering lock module and the EIS module. Then you need to ensure you have two key fobs for the EIS. (Two is one and one is none).
E430 swap much less effort than an E320 swap.
FWIW as I have not performed this swap, only read about it.

Ok, so v8 to v8 is pretty much straight forward, less mucking around? V6 to v8 lots of headaches? I’m also throwing the idea around about swapping my 97 E420 to an E55 but with the E55 not being made till 99, am I going to run into a bunch of issues there?
