SLS Line Replacement - 2001 E320 Wagon

Hello,

I posted a different question a couple of weeks ago on an E320 wagon I just purchased with a great deal of bounce in the back end. After researching a bit, I decided to start by replacing the accumulators. While I was changing them (this was an easy job) I noticed the leveling valve was leaking fluid quite badly, so I decided to change the leveling valve. The location of the valve on the W210 made it quite difficult to work on, and the main lines to/from the front were torqued on so tightly that I had to cut them with a hack saw to remove the old valve, then cut them flush with a pipe cutter, put on new fittings and prepped them to flare. The lines have a great deal of corrosion from salt and from not having any splash guards to protect them, and bending one line slightly to flare snapped in half. Now I need to replace one of these lines, and based on the condition, it would probably be best to replace both. I need to know what I can use to replace the lines. On my W211, I replaced the corroded, leaking steel brake lines with copper, but I do not know if there is an equivalent replacement for these that is recommended. My W211 brake likes were 4.5mm, but these SLS lines appear to be 6mm, based on the flaring tool. I have a feeling getting the steel replacement lines at the stealer will not only be much more expensive than copper lines, they will corrode again easily, and as they are pre-bent, be extremely difficult to install on the ground in a backyard.

I appreciate any suggestions you could give on how to proceed.

Steven
