Asking for my daughter and son-in-law . .
Their original factory radio has given up, and I was wondering if anyone knew what was a
good unit to install instead of the terrible original factory one?
He is mainly interested in good AM reception which the original radio never did at all well.
Not really concerned about hi-fi or music, but a unit that will do what the factory radio never did well.
A good installer in the South Bay area (Torrance, Redondo Beach) would help also.
Any suggestions? Please help, as I haven't a clue!
I'd give him the one from my '99 but mine has fibre optics, and his does not, I think?
Thanks in advance.

If he doesn't care too much CD and only needs AM and he's got a pre-fiber car, he should be able to go any stereo shop and buy a simple radio and harness for cheap. Probably, not much more than 200 bucks should be all, if that.
Of course, there's always ebay. Tons of used radios there. Lots of factory radios too.
good luck,

Your 1999 radio should work in his car, but will not operate the CD changer (if one is installed)... so you should not plug in the C connector.
Also, Steve has an Audio 10CD which would work well also.
Note that the poor AM reception may have something to do with the antenna amplifier.

Scorchie . .
Is it difficult to replace that amplifier, and where is it located?
Also, where is the best place to buy a new antenna amp., and how much are they?
I'll try that first and go from there.

Anyone ever deal with Crutchfield?
I'm thinking about buying a replacement radio from them if it comes to that which I'm sure it probably will!

Dean B,
Car is fixed now.
Took a local radio shop fellow less than five minutes to repair.
This shop was recommended by a good independent MBZ shop in the South Bay area. Turned out to be a loose connection I think.

Kevin said it was behind the left rear grip handle, sort of behind the headliner (?)
Before going to the independent MBZ shop and then on to the radio shop, K.
called the local Torrance banditos and was quoted over $600 for the antenna
amplifier plus more than $2000 for a new factory radio! Can you believe?
It's no wonder MBZ is loosing customers. They cannot make profits selling cars, but sure do selling parts.
Thanks again, and I'll be watching for a Pacer for you. I read the L A Times'
classifieds every weekend, so if there is no advertised, I'll let you know.
