What's involved in replacing W210 rear door
My son's 1997 E420 was parked in front of the house and someone did a hit and run on the left rear door. Looks like the entire door, or at least the shell, will need to be replaced. Appears a complete rear door can be found at the salvage yard for around $125 and in the same black color as the rest of the car. So has anyone done a rear door replacement and can you tell me what I'm in for when doing this? Some initial questions I have are:
1. Is the rear door from any E class from 1996 - 2001 a direct swap for the 1997 E 420, or are there differences I need to be aware of when finding a replacement?
2. Are there any security or electrically "coded" items that would have to be synced with the control system? Or is it just unplug the old, and plug in the replacement?
3. What's involved in aligning the door to make sure the body panel gaps are correct?
4. Any advice or tips?
Thanks!
