driver's side mirror

the other day i noticed my mirror vibrating at highway speed - i looked at it in the driveway and noticed it was completely loose! Just about hanging on by the wires. i popped off the cover, and found one of the hooks that holds the spring had broken. i used some wire to hold it together temporarily, but since i'm going to have to replace it anyways, how hard is it to come across the folding mirrors? i haven't seen them for sale on the web. if i go with OEM replacement, is the mirror all one part, or can i buy just the metal piece that holds the spring?

thanks,

-v

Same thing happened to me...

Mine broke off in a car wash. I was able to stretch the spring and attached it to another piece of metal inside the unit. I will have to break down and pay the $300 eventually...

Very poor design...

attached to another spot? i'll have to take another look in there. i couldn't really find a spot close enough - that spring is tight! did you drill a hole? i was considering that, but it was getting late.

One end of mine broke off while I was installing my signal blinkers, I used about 10 rubber bands connecting to the spring, and wrapping around the entire end portion to loop back to the spring. Not as tight as the OEM unit, but good enough for it not to move at all while driving. I should replace it though, mine is a 97 mirror (not foldable), I've seen then pretty cheap on ebay.

if i'm not mistaken, it's just the covers on ebay that are pretty cheap, i'll look again though. right now, mine is pretty tight, but the cover is not slipping all the way on, i'm thinking it is hung up on my little wire tie quick fix

some slow@$$diesels
quite a lot of forum members here swapped their mirrors out for blinking mirrors...there should be an abundance of regular non blinking 210 mirrors available here...make sure you buy a mirror that has the memory motor instead of a standard non memory motor when you find a used one...

Steve MBenzNL will be able to help with getting you the Advantgarde powered folding/memory mirrors.

I'm really surprized the regular ones can't be folded....I thought that would be a standard damage preventive design - all other cars have them...weird.

Mine is an Advantgarde and the switch is located on the driver's side between the mirror toggle and button for the power rear shade...of course, it should be on the other side for the US.....

I agree with whitey ....

The switch is actually in the same place as european / asian market cars, next to the rear sunshade button, on the right side of the car.

Damn whitey I want that Parktronic button, then I'd really have a dashboard with every single available switch :p
