Question That plastic strip

I was thinking I could just pull the rubber strip off the bottom of the doors to expose the silver paint but its about an inch and a half from the bottom of the door to where the plastic panel connected to the rocker panel is. I guess I should have bought something that was already painted the way I wanted. But has any pulled that rubber crap off? Is that what I should do?

It does look a lot better with the painted lower pieces. I had a 98 E430 and hated the black especially on the lighter colors.

You could get the AMG body kit. It eliminates most of that black.

I think your best bet is to get the rubber strips painted.

That's why I bought my car black!
AMG body kit would be my preferred option if I had a different color car

You could get them painted, but i'm not sure how long they would last.. the reason I say this is because if the rubber is in contact with the door when opening and closing, this would cause cracks to appear on the paint.

Did i just make any sense?

it was a personal gripe of mine on MB's and even bimmers when they had the lower half of the car in black... i thought that was just ugly...

Talking

thanks for all the feedback I talked to my touch up guy and he said he can paint it all. He said the paint on rubber on the bottom of the door will eventually come off because of the rubbing but hey he said he'll repaint for free when it does.

Painting the door weather stripping.

I had a '94 BMW 540, Alpine white, it had black rockers, rear valance and all parts under the front bumper. On the doors, the black weather stripping was almost 1" wide. I painted all the lower parts with DuPont acrylic enamel. I also painted the lower weather stripping. The paint will last about two years before cracking.

Have your body shop person spray the rubber pieces with SEM flexible parts primer first, this will help the colored paint to adhere to the W210 door strips.
