Climate control question.

Hi folks, posting this for my buddy. His 96 E320 climate control unit is acting strange, the passanger side A/C freezes in auto mode and will not blow air hot or cold sometimes. Also the button with directional vent on passanger side will not change direction of air but driver side will. Sometimes if he restarts the car the climate control will work ok but other times freezes, im guessing the unit is going bad or has dirty connectors? What is your thoughts on this one? His car has 104k milage.

THanks

Update, passanger side fixed, found out he was not pressing the climate directional button on passanger side hard enough.lol Still haven't figured out why its not blowing air sometimes, possibly he is overloading the memory or his kids press the button to many times.

Lightbulb Here is how it works on mine!

My 97 e420 keeps the auto on all the time (the red light in auto button is always on). If I disturb a control, like adjust the fan, the word "auto" from LCD disappears, yet the red light stays in the "on" within the button.

To make everything auto again, I depress the auto button.

NOW!

the fan is irrespective of the temperature on both sides (pass and driver) so regardless of individual temp setting, if you have the fan on hi - it will blow hi on both sides.

There is an internal plastic flap, that mixes fresh air with conditioned air to control the temp. Maybe that is stuck. To find out, try Full hot setting (temp= Hi) and then full cold (Lo displayed on climate control). If at any given setting you get full blast of air thru the pass side, the flap is stuck.

Dealer can fix that! kinda complicated in the dash.

Hope this helps.

Check out this site...

Go Here

The procedures for pulling Fault Codes go like this. Turn on the ignition, and set the left temperature to "HI" and the right temperature to "LO." Then, simultaneously press buttons "Rest" and "EC" for five or more seconds. All of this must be done within 20 seconds. The "Recirculate" button will flash its LED. The screen will then go blank, and the first code can be brought up by pressing the right "AUTO" button.
