HOW MUCH WOULD YOU PAY?
I am on my way to look at a 2001 RWD wagon. It has 85,000 miles with a clean New York title, where it spent all its life, which I was able to verify through Carfax. Also, I discovered it was totaled by Geico about 2 year ago.
I saw pictures of the car at auction and was able correspond with the guy who sold it to the previous owner. He said when he bought it at auction, he did not do and not have to do any sort of mechanical or bodywork on it; car has a broken right fog light, and all the reports I ordered say it had minor damage on the right front to total. The car looks really really clean. It has had dealership maintenance for the first eight years, then a couple of random trips to the dealer and some recent work spark plugs oil filter transmission service. Claims everything works including rear suspension. If the car is really clean in person and unmolested by accident, what would you pay for it?
He seems to be high at 7000., especially when I compare with recent sales all over. I’m thinking more like 4-5000? However, this is just what I’m looking for; low mileage to wheel drive. I’m taking it to an independent for an inspection.
What say you? Really appreciate the input guys thank you very much.

Pay for a 20+ year old, wrecked, previously totaled MB that's been in the salt it's whole life? $2k and use it around town. The first major repairi's going to put it's lights out again unless you are a very competent mechanic with enough tools. I love mine, but luckily for me, it's had the opposite pedigree being a 2 owner, $4,000 puchase (1st guy was an older, maintenance fanatic), clean southern car - and I had to think long and hard at it's recent $1,100 tranny repair. That's my opinion.
