Kleeman wheels voiding Mercedes Warranty???!!!
I just called the local dealership who is/was also a kleeman tuner. I called to ask about the kleeman 2 piece wheel. He paused and asked someone a question and responded by saying they do not carry kleeman any longer and that MB came out and said they will not warranty the factory brakes with Kleeman wheels because the wheels cause the brake system to over heat and prematurely wear.
Sounds logical, but I would think that might be true for many after market wheels that are heavier than the standard sport. Anyone have thoughts on this. I'd like to upgrade my wheels, but not void my warranty.

Ummmm, excuse my ignorance but aren't reputable aftermarket sports wheels meant to aid cooling of the brakes?
That's the biggest load of
I've heard from the stealers yet!

Yeah, that's the biggest piece of bull**** I've ever heard. What's the name of your dealer so we can make sure we boycott that dealer.
Kleemann TS6 wheels were designed to act as a black hole for air sucking in air at higher speeds therfore aiding in cooling the brakes. Whoever told you that the wheels caused premature wear is either high or stupid or possibly both.
Also, the TS6 rims are ligher (IIRC) then any other rim AMG makes.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm looking at the Kleeman 2 piece as a possible upgrade. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the major issues I might have with the brakes is almost entirely related to wear of the rotors and pads. What might they not cover as a result of a "voided warranty"? Might they prove that wheels might affect the ABS or master cylinder?

It is not just an issue with Kleemann rims. They would take the same silly issue with any non standard rim.

The only mod I've heard that might affect the master cylinder is using too big a brake with too many pistons more than the OEM one will cause it to fail - that makes more sense. The AMG wheels for our cars are heavy as hell, especially the mono II, also with a much bigger face with very small holes for cooling.....I fail to understand why the lighter Kleemann wheel, with more effective cooling capabilities would have any ill effects. If anything, a lighter wheel means less unsprung wieght, so that your suspension works more effectively and obviously less unsprung weight also gives you a quicker launch. Well, maybe these guys think that a quicker car means heavier braking at some stage and hence more burden on the brakes

Having said that, here in HK, the exclusive dealer can choose to void the warranty with any mod whatsoever, especially if they're not AMG but I beleive its more a commercial rather than technical consideration.

Of course there is no brake heating issue with Kleemann aftermarket rims. The issue of brake overheating is moot. I am mainly stating that it is not just Kleemann rims, any rim wound get the same dealer reaction.
For any "wheel" related issue the dealers would void the warranty for using aftermarket rims and anything associated with it. I had a stripped female lug bolt thread on my brake disc and the dealer did not want to repair because of aftermarket rims.
If it ain't OEM they will try to void the warranty and not fix it.

that's weird..never heard such comment from a fully trained technician...i agree with most your comment above. I really think that it's only 1 way for a delaership to avoid paying for people who have a warrantee on their car...my suggestion is buy the kleeman wheel and whenever you want to go to have your schedule maintanance...just change it to stockl...:P

That's the biggest load of crock I have ever heard of. Whoever said that obviously is not very well verse in the mechanics of it. He's probably mechanically and mentally challenged.

Remember, you guys are talking about someone behind the counter at a stealership. They'll tell you whatever the hell ocurrs to them at the time to get you off the phone. They could care less if the info is correct or not. That's the stealership for you...
