Greetings All, I'm a new member but a longtime German car fanatic. (currently own 7) I purchased a mint condition '96 E320 (my second) with 42K original miles. My questions are these: 1. What is the widest tire I can safely mount on the stock rims? 2. Can anyone recommend reliable web sources for researching tire and wheel options for this car? Other than a "zero plus" tire size (see Tire Rack) you are talking about replacing your beautiful wheels. The AMG E55 wheels will fit, there are knock-offs out there, what is your goal with this car?

I have toyed with the idea of replacing the wheels but would rather not. I agree that they are beautiful ! I just think the overall look of the car might be improved by mounting beefier tires. I also have a slight shimmy in the front at around 60mph which the guys at my tire shop can’t seem to completely rid me of so I’m guessing it’s a minor tire defect. I did contact Tire Rack yesterday and was informed that 225’s and 235’s could be mounted on the stock wheels. Thanks for your reply!
