any updates on this? Is this boot on the engine side, or passenger compartment side of the firewall?

My '96 E320 has a squeaky steering noise ONLY when the outside temperature drops below 332F... and when the engine is warming up, it goes away (after 2-3 minutes). Is this the same squeaky problem that you guys are talking about?

Thanks

well I've only owned my car for about a month, so its been cold the whole time, but it does seem worse when its real cold. However, mine is quiet when the interior is cold, but once the interior warms up, then it starts squeeking and doesn't stop.

I had the TSB done, and so far its all quiet, but I haven't driven it for more than 10 minutes a clip, so we'll have to see what happens. I don't have much faith, but the only other option is a rack replacement, which I will NOT have done for this ($$$$)

2001 S600 Black/Black
Thumbs up WD40 Fixed It 4me

I had the dry rubbing sound on my 2001 S600. Sprayed WD40 right on top of the steering column where it meets the sleeve, then extended and contracted the steering wheel a few times to work the wd40 in. Noise is Gone.

I had the same problem coming out of my left wheel. In my case it was the ball joint that went bad. It was about $60 for that part. I thought it was the bushings at first but that wasn't it.

I used to hear hoarse noise while turning during slow drive or while parking, I figured out that my steering box is leaking very slowly, I got rid of the problem by buying a steering box lubricant and have to top it -small amount only- regularly every 3 or 4 weeks, the oil cost me where I live 3 bucks, and it is enough for about a year. according to the mechanics if I need to completely get rid of the problem I have to replace my steering box with another leak proof one -used part- which may cost about 100 bucks.
