My light just came on at 423km/263miles, again that's with a full city cycle, with some a/c, 100km before my latest mod (the DPS) and lots of flooring (and a few 3.2l kills (S, CLK) along with it ). Prior to the DPS, I was doing at best 420km, even in winter - sub-400 before any of the mods. I figure I will get at least 440km before the light comes on (with a full tank using the DPS) in the winter.........and I'd be pimpin' without the crimpin' Steve

That's if I'm taking it easy, which with mine is rather hard to do.
By easy I mean holding it at 65 mph or less with occasional speeds faster, but only briefly.
Last tank, the tank average was 32.5, so using that times 20 gallons equals 650 miles.
Can you imagine the total miles one could run if they were to get the EPA estimated
highway fuel mileage and ran the tank down to when the light first comes on?
With mine, the secret seems to be in holding it down to legal speeds.
When I do drive it that-a-way, everybody and their brother is passing me like I'm not moving at all!
And yet, I seldom see anyone getting stopped for speeding. What gives?
Has the CHP given up in the Los Angeles suburbs? Even when they're around, the flow of traffic is still at least 5 miles per hour over. And when they are not there, just about anything goes!

my milage
I got an e320 and I only use 93 and above octane rating from a brand name gas station. So far Sunaco has given be the best milage at 450 miles before the light came on. Usually, I get around 400 miles to a tank which equals to about 18-19 gallons before it is filled back to the top. This means that I get about 22 miles per gallon. I drive on the highway, but i do hit the traffic for about six miles that lasts about an hour, so i avarage 6 miles per an hour. I drive a lot. Approximately I put on my benz 30k miles every year. I am not sure whether or not my winter tires add to reduction of my gas milage.

I'm a bit surprised at the v-6 numbers reported here.
I get around 400-450 miles before the light comes on. Usually better in the summer because we get stuck with lower-efficiency oxy gas in the colder half of the year. This is on a V-8 with 70k miles.

No one says that you are fabricating numbers.
There is a difference between what your trip computer says, and what your true miles per gallon are when you always divide the number of gallons that it takes to fill your tank into the number of miles that you've driven.
I've yet to see an onboard computer that will show the exact tank mileages acturately. They all give inaccurate readings on the high side.
Do you keep a log and over a long period of time show those high fuel mileage figures over many miles?

Diesel Fuel Economy, 34 + MPG !
Decided to try and see whether I could improve my tank mileage a little.
I did succeed, going 675 miles before the light came on. Filled it up 11 miles later for a total of 686 miles and it took 19.819 gallons at $2.119, or $42.00.
That figures out to 34.613 miles per gallon, which isn't bad considering that there was about 15 percent local city type driving on that tank.
I used to believe that there was no way mine could get the EPA highway rating of 36 mpg given the fact that the T/C never locks up, but I now believe that it is possible if all driving were to be done on the interstate with cruise control set no higher than 65 mph.
This is really hard to do around here on the highways given the manner that most idiots are speeding now days.
So just a fraction over 6 cents per mile, and it would have been less if I could have filled up at my normal station which charges 8 cents per gallon less, but I wanted to fill A S A P after the light first came on to see how many gallons it takes after the light has activated.
Anyone ever run one dry to see what the true tank capacity really is?

Don't know how many miles per gallon I get, but I feel that my car is definitely a gasoline guzzler. Think I should have brought a E320 instead of E420. Cost me like $45/week for gas. Don't really need a V8, but the car does look awesome and it is a great ride.

I dont have a mileage-calculating computer, as far as I can tell (it's a '98) I fill up, reset the trip odo to zero, then wait until the light goes on to refill again. In summer, I hit over 400 miles before the light activates. Assuming there are 2 more gallons in the tank, that should mean another 40+ miles.
Now the guage might be dodgy, but it seems to err on the low side.
Also, the pump guy likes to fill it to the brim to round out the dollar amount, despite the fact that I pay with credit card and he knows it. Maybe the fill tube is larger than I thought.
