Oil Consumption Poll

For those of you with the 98+ V6 & V8 motors, how much oil does your engine consume?

My 98 E320 appears to use about a quart (approx 1 L) every 4,000 miles (6 400 km).

less oil consumption than i thought

Since I posted this poll, I've decided that the car is using less oil than I thought. I've only had the car for about a month and put 3,000 miles on it. It looks like it's consumed about 1/2 a quart in this time...that's 1 qt / 6000 miles. Absolutely no leaks, and I haven't observed any smoking at any time.

The oil was changed at most a couple hundred miles before I purchased it. When I picked up the car, the oil was down about 1/2 a quart. When I checked it after 1500 miles, it was down about a quart. I added 1/2 a quart to bring it up to the level where I purchased it. From that, I concluded that it was using a quart every 3,000.

As time goes on, it seems like the variation was caused by temperature. I've noticed that when I check the oil warm, about 20-30 minutes after shutting the engine off, it reads about 1/2 a quart higher than when cold (about 25 degrees Fahrenheit).

So I've decided it's using somewhere between 1 qt / 6000 mi and none at all, which I think is perfectly reasonable for a car with 106k mi on it.

I'm going to change the oil with Mobil1 0W-40 at 4-5k mi and I'll see how it goes from there.

Oil

I use Mobil 1 and change every 10K miles. It's a '96 E320, never uses any oil , even before I switched to Mobli 1., maybe I am a lucky one?
