Outside Temperature Reading Incorrect — Sensor Location + Troubleshooting?
Hi everyone, I have a W210 E240 and recently noticed that the outside temperature display has been acting strange. At first it was consistently showing about 10°C lower than the actual temperature. Then it started reading completely off (sometimes below 0°C even when it’s warm outside). Occasionally it will read correctly, but after a while it goes wrong again. I’m trying to figure out the correct location of the outside temperature sensor on this model. Some people say it's inside the instrument cluster, others say it's behind the front bumper. Can anyone confirm exactly where it is on the W210 E-class model 2000 (E240 specifically)? This is when it was reading correct, now it ether reads 10 degree below off the actual temp, or completely off under 0c, sometimes it reads correct but after minutes it goes off again. Also, what’s the proper way to test/diagnose the sensor before replacing it? Any tips or common failure points (wiring, connector corrosion, etc.) would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I dont have info on E240 but the 2000 E320 manual says it is in the front bumper. Parts diagram for E250 shows the connector in the bumper. I cant seem to find a part# for the sensor. It should have the part# stamped on it.

Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for the help. Even though I have a different bumper since my car is a 2002 model, the sensor was in the same area. I also found a video that shows exactly where it is and how to work with the sensor — I’ll attach the link for anyone who’s curious. I haven’t worked on the sensor yet, but hopefully it won’t be a big deal.
