Winter Driving In NYC

I live in NYC too but make it a point not to drive whenever it snows or whenever there is ice and / or salt on the road. It is not only dangerous but I do not find any reason to go out on those conditions and would rather take public transport if needed. My wife has never ever driven in the snow and does not intend to.
Although the car is much hardier than what I treat it to be and I am sure it is more than capable to handle weather disturbances, ice and snow but I simply avoid doing so. When it is unavoidable I do use the car on those conditions and once drove from Washington DC to Manhattan in a Blizzard. However those are rare occassions (like once every two years) and exceptional cases. As soon as I get home during those times I have the car hosed down with warm water in the garage or wash it the next possible day. (On average I only hand wash the car once every 6 or 8 weeks.)
Black 1998 with 70,000 miles and no rust, and no swirls too.
(Pirellis have 32,000 miles on them and still pretty good threads)

thats the spirit!
Hey Pax,
I understand what you are saying, but it was not much snow, way too much salt for 1/2 inch of snow. Besides I need my car to be up and running every day, thats why i got some nice snow tires.

For instance, I have a computer file of every single time I put gas in the car, the miles I traveled per filling, the odometer, the number of gallons, the price per gallon, and miles per gallon travelled. I write it down in a small notebook and transfer it to my computer when I get home. I have only been using one credit car for every item spent for the car and that credit card is used for nothing else except car related items. That way, I know how much I spend per month, per year for every item. Synthetic oil changed every 3,000 miles, Chevron fuel additive every 1,000 miles, air filter vacummed every month and Italian tune-up every month. (Meaning run it to 100 mph every month) .
The car is under warranty up to 100,000 miles and I provide all the information to my insurance and warranty companies and they could not be any happier.
I will let you know when I get rid of it... He he he but that will probably be some time from now. (next project will be the Vision GST55 model for 2007)

2000 E320 4Matic Obsidian Black/Ash
Yea, no joke about salting/sanding the roads like we're in Buffalo or something.... It would be nice if they did that with the sidewalks here...
After that snowshower mess stopped, took my car promptly to the car wash to get the salt off before putting it in the garage. I figure this would minimize the salt eating into the wax/paint.
It amazes me they design this 4matic rust bucket for snow driving and the body can't hold up....too bad cuz the 4MATIC is AWESOME in the snow... weeeee!

Not a Benzer anymore
Generally, you can wash all you want to...
but road salt/trash is one of those things like sand at the beach: you drop something in the sand and no matter how quickly you pick it up or how well you clean it, sand still appears... One of those amazing things...
