Please advice which is better E200 (2000) or E 240 V6 (1999)
Hi All
I have a 124, and plan to change my car soon. Due to my country High Import Tax, it will very expensive to buy a new model.
I am trying decide between E240 1999 model and a E 200 2000 model. Can someone share some lights on which is a better model ?
I like the E 200 facelift look and dashboard. It looks very up to date. But i also like the E240 V6 engine, really smooth. However is there a real power difference, since the E200 is multivalve with tiptronic gearbox ?
I have been trying to look for some reviews on this cars, but am not able to find.
I look forward to read your valuable input on this matter.

We don't get anything less than the E320 here so I can't coment on the power difference in the E-Class. The C240 here doesn't seem all that swift for a V6. Is the E200 a 4 cyl? We have the C230 Kompressor that seams to be better than the C240 if the E200 has a kompressor on it. Otherwise it would come down to how much you like the facelift body style.

Mrsiva,
you wouldn't happen to be malaysian ay? once you mentioned hihg import duty, I can only think of one place..!I'm from KL!
E200 is definitely underpowered compared to the E240...although the E200 new facelift look is relatively better compared to the E240 99, but I've sat in a E200 before, and it just doesn't fly as an E class should ( due to size and weight of the car.. )
The road tax is a killer though..guess it really depends on what you're wanting to spend..
Cheers!

I've driven both and the 200 is very underpowered. Remember if you are buying used than that 2l engine will have been workign a lot harder to drag around 1.7tonnes than the 2.4. You'lll notice it especially on an auto 200.
Going beyond the e.g., updated interior the 240 is a a better engine and more lasting and will have less wear. If oyu want to update the steering wheel, CANBUS, COMAND etc., that can all come later anyway but you are stuck with the engine you buy.
The Kompressor isn't bad if that's the 200 but same stands - it's a heavy car and the V6 is necessary to ride and be able to overtake in comfort. The difference b/w 200 and 240 is bigger than 240 and 320.

Forget the 200, it doesn't give out enough low end torque, even with a kompressor. The 240 also has a lot more potential for power upgrades in future. If the body styling is a concern, I'd suggest either considering a body kit or save up for a 00+ 240 or larger capacity.
