Approaching B service on '01 E430 4matic, what needs to be done??

I'm gonna do all the services on my benz myself and my B service is coming up. The car is just approaching 40,000 miles. What is necessary for me to do on this service and how do i go abouts resetting the computer for the service intervals?

Think Twice

not to sound pessimistic, but if you don't even know how to reset your FSS, you may want to reconsider in doing rest of the service yourself. I initially thought the same thing, but shops spend upto $60k in just mercedes tools. Good luck my dear friend.
What is Checked:
Interior
· Function Check
· Warning and indicator lamps, illumination and interior lighting
· Windshield wiper, windshield washer system, headlamp cleaning system
· Reset maintenance service counter in instrument cluster
· Replace dust filter (not applicable to SL-Class)
· Replace combination filter (SL-Class)
· Check parking brake (function test only)
Wheels, brakes
· Check condition/thickness of brake discs front/rear
· Check brake pads for lining thickness front/rear
· Check tires for damage and condition
· Measure tread depth, record in mm
· Correct tire inflation pressure
Underside of Vehicle
· Check for major components leakage
· Check for chafe marks, line routing, damaged components
· Check condition of front axle ball joints and rubber boots
· Check condition of mechanical steering components and rubber boots
Engine Compartment
· Check for major components leakage
· Check for chafe marks, line routing, damaged components
· Check and replenish all fluid levels
· Engine oil and filter change
· Engine cooling system, antifreeze and corrosion protection
· Brake system
· Power steering
· Active Body Control
· Windshield washer system
· Battery, check and correct fluid level; check battery condition
· Check catch, safety catch and hinges on engine hood for proper operation
· Check condition of poly-V-belt
Trunk
· Battery, check battery condition
· Correct tire inflation pressure in spare tire

B service is basically an oil change and look over the car for anything that may be worn or damaged. You can probably handle it. You can reset the FSS by following the instructions in your manual.

I say skip it. It is only "CHECK" for your $550 personal Check!!! Just reset the FSS yourself and floor it

Anyone know what the A Service includes? I thought the B Service was the major one from the two. I have an 01 E430.

The B service *is* the major one. Lots of stuff is checked and changed like spark plugs.

That said, you could just reset the FSS and forget about it as suggested above. It would be like a longer version of driving-when-the-fuel-guage-goes-yellow type of game.

aight sweet, i'm gonna just do the oil, change the plugs, and go over the whole car after i put it on my lift. I didn't think the resetting of the FSS would be in the manual as i thought i read somewhere that it wasn't.

diffuzi0n,

Yea bro i can definetely handle the service, i build engines, race cars and **** for years on the side, mostly stangs, ton of side work fabricating and ****.

This is a good list, but I don't need to pay technician labor to check bulbs, windshield wiper and wash fluid, measure tire tread and tire pressure, or most of the other stuff I do myself on a monthly basis. Brake pads have singers on them, why measure the pad thickness? I see no mention of spark plugs, transmission or differential fluids, replacing brake or power steering fluid. If not part of B service, when are these items addressed? I read somewhere the coolant should be replaced every 3 years. I have a tag showing that was done on my 2000 in 2004, surely it is overdue now in 2018. I changed my oil and cabin filters today, probably put a K&N in the breather box tomorrow. What else should be done at 100k?

Do you realize this thread you bumped was from 2005? They were talking about a 2001 MY car then so having a tech do the work does make a bit of sense.

like he said, the service depends on your model. you should have this in your owner's manual packet. if not
try picking from the selections on this crib sheet. look under SERVICE A and B

I am approaching B service on a 2000 e430, and wondering what needs to be done. Sorry if I woke a dead thread.
I am a noob to benz. Thanks for the link raymond-g, I will proceed with replacing all the potentially 20 year old fluids.

no reason why you should apologize for reviving an old thread. the question you had posed was valid
and was not addressed earlier. so a nudge from you helped to elicit a little more useful info for other
folks who may similar questions. it's all good
