Cat Converter 99 E-320

Can I buy a Catalylic Converter on the web here and have it installed for my 99 E320 89K miles at a cheaper price than the dealer is asking? Chicago area.

Also, anyone have good experience having an out of warranty car serviced by local shops other than the local Mercedes dealers? 120 hour at them?...Do they have the knowledge?..tools?

Thanks SC

pick up a aftermarket high flow cat (magnaflow) for like $150 ea. any muffler shop can cut the old ones out and reinstall the new. I would imagine this should cost less than $100.00 for install. Check with a muffler shop to see what your options are as far as fittment.

Strat - What Shane has indicated is to replace your worn out stock CAT or CATs with an aftermarket universal, hi-flow CAT. The one's you see on Ebay, aftermarket or not, are shaped and the inlets and outlets to match the originals. If you not picky about OEM, then go with the solution above. Find a good muffler shop, the kind that caters to Sport Trucks or Import Racer cars, they are more likely to help with a custom fitment like your's.

Ben . . . There are no stupid questions, only dumb answers.

Basically it's a muffler shaped devise that is installed to help clean up or convert the exhaust gases.
This is done by the "Cat" being kept at very high temperatures and an interaction occurring between the rare metals in the honeycomb of the Cat and the impurities in the exhaust gases as they pass through the honeycomb.

Usually no car will pass the smog check if it have a bad or malfunctioning Cat.

Don't worry about the idiot bit, as at one time, none of us knew the answer to your question.

HTHs

Talking That it.

As far as I know, that's about it.

It may help muffle the exhaust just a little?
